Three Feldenkrais® Lessons for Balance, Breathing, and Orientation

By Al Wadleigh, GCFP
3 Feldenkrais lessons, MP3 Download or Streaming

These lessons won't teach you how to stand or walk.
They’re about cultivating the conditions that make standing and walking easy.

In this three-lesson series, you explore how shifting weight, coordinating movement with the breath, and freeing the head in space can profoundly clarify balance, orientation, and the sense of moving through the world with less effort and more confidence.

Rather than practicing steps, you refine how your self organizes underneath walking: how weight transfers from leg to leg, how breathing supports timing and flow, and how a quiet, available head allows everything below it to move more freely.

Throughout the lessons, small, precise movements invite your nervous system to discover more efficient relationships between feet, pelvis, spine, breath, and orientation in space. The changes tend to feel subtle at first—and then unmistakable when you stand up and walk.

What you’ll explore:

  • Gentle, progressive weight-shifting to improve balance and stability
  • Using the breath as a natural guide for timing and coordination
  • Clarifying how movement organizes below a quiet, sensing head
  • Improving orientation—forward, backward, side-to-side, and in turning
  • Reducing unnecessary effort in standing and walking
  • Integrating movement through rest, attention, and simplicity

These lessons are especially supportive if you want to:

  • Feel steadier and more confident on your feet
  • Improve balance without strain or “training”
  • Walk with greater ease, clarity, and awareness
  • Deepen your understanding of how movement, breath, and orientation work together

Thank you so much!" — John Spurr
