When you enter the space of coherence with breath and movement, where neither disturbs the other, a new harmony in your nervous system emerges, giving you a feeling of wholeness, wellness, and vitality.
Often, when we initiate a movement, our breath is disturbed. We may hold it, speed it up, or do something else.
This audio series explores the relationship between moving and breathing. We develop and use the coherence breathing model to achieve harmony between our actions and our breathing.
The first lesson introduces you to sensing your breath while making simple, coordinated movements with your legs and head. This lesson primes your awareness to notice how simple movements can disturb your breath and how to create ease and harmony between breathing and moving.
In the subsequent lessons, we develop coherence breathing, sometimes called the "perfect breath," which involves a cycle of inhaling for six seconds and exhaling for six seconds through the nose with minimal effort. We pair coherence breathing with variations in the duration and rhythm of movements in the Feldenkrais lessons. The lessons ask for a wide aperture of awareness to attend to your breath and movement simultaneously.
In the second lesson, we develop coherence breathing and introduce simple twisting movements. In this lesson, we perform some long, slow movements during which you will make several coherent breaths.
In the third lesson, we continue with coherence breathing and explore making rapid small movements in the form of oscillations while maintaining coherence breathing.
In the fourth lesson, we explore combining a contiguous series of movements into one coherent action while maintaining coherence breathing.
Naturally, you'll discover places where the breath or movement is disturbed. The intention of this course is to proceed slowly, with a wide aperture of awareness, so you can do the movement lessons while maintaining the cycle of the six-second inhalation and six-second exhalation.
